Dmitri Wright to teach principles of Impressionism

COS COB, CT- Greenwich fine artist Dmitri Wright will teach a six-week painting workshop for adults at Bush-Holley Historic Site this winter. Classes will take place in the VanderbiltEducation Center on Thursdays, February 7, 14 and 28, and March 6, 13, and 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The workshop is open to students of all skill levels and they may work in oils, acrylic, watercolor and pastels. Dmitri Wright is a well-known painting instructor in the region and his teaching is based on the “the canons of Impressionism,” a series of principles based on the 19-century artist movement. Wright demonstrates how impressionistic masters worked with quick, spontaneous brushstrokes of light vibrant pigments and contrasting radiant darker pigments to produce the impressionist effect. Students are encouraged to discover their own style of impressionism.

“The teaching of Impressionism at Bush-Holley Historic Site has a long tradition,” says Tara Tomaselli, Associate Director of Education at the Site. “From 1890 to 1920, the Cos Cob art colony was a place for many artists to come and be inspired by such masters of American Impressionism as John Henry Twachtman. This workshop is a chance for artists enjoy the site in a very special way.”

Dmitri Wright’s paintings and drawings are in more than 200 private, corporate, and public permanent collections, including museums in Newark, Long Island, and Brooklyn. He has participated in numerous national competitions, one-man shows and group exhibitions.
