January 26th, 2008American Classical Orchestra Presents The Magic Recorder Vanderbilt Education CenterCost: $15 per person, $12 members The American Classical Orchestra (ACO) brings history alive by recreating performances similar to those given in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Audiences learn the differences between the period instruments and their modern counterparts, and they hear the beautiful music as it was intended to be heard. The ACO is one of the country’s few orchestras performing on period, or historic instruments. They are dedicated to fostering and preserving the great music of the Baroque, Classical and early Romantic eras. Under the direction of founder Maestro Thomas Crawford, the ACO has been performing for over 20 years, and have become a leading orchestra in the New York Metropolitan and Tri-State area. “The Magic Recorder” is a popular program in which the international recorder star Horacio Franco and Thomas Crawford perform Baroque music, including Vivaldi’s “Winter” from the “Four Seasons,” on the recorder and harpsichord. Mr. Franco is well known in his country, Mexico, and abroad and has been described by the international press as “one of the most distinguished recorder players of our time.” He will bring with him a range of recorders from his extensive collection, and demonstrate the differences between each instrument. Mr. Crawford will be costumed as Vivaldi and perform on the harpsichord. The program aims to introduce children to the pleasures of classical music in an interactive, age-appropriate and entertaining format. The performance will begin promptly at 1:00 and run for 45 minutes. Recorders will be available for purchase at the event. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling (203) 869-6899 ext. 10. Bush-Holley Historic Site The Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich Cos Cob, Connecticut www.hstg.org
