In conjunction with National Historic Preservation Month, the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich is honoring homes that were designed and built by J. Alden Twachtman and his brother Quentin, two sons of John Henry Twachtman, the American Impressionish painter and Greenwich resident (Round Hill Road). The Twachtman Brothers were responsible for building over two dozen homes in Greenwich from the 1920s through the 1930s for many of the town’s leading families that include Rockefeller, Metcalf, Converse and Sachs. Most of the homes are situated between Rock Ridge and Round Hill Road and reflect a quiet grandeur that attracted many notables to the area. The afternoon will include a tour of some of the Twachtman properties followed by a reception and plaques presentation at a Twachtman-designed house on Vineyard Lane. The houses receiving plaques will join over 260 historic Greenwich homes previously recognized by the program, which began over twenty years ago. $50 per person. Reservations required. Call (203) 869-6899, ext 10.
