Bush-Holley Historic Site April 2008 Calendar of Events Highlights include:
A New Exhibition of American Prints, an American History Lecture, art workshops for kids and a Dramatic Reading of a New Play
COS COB, CT - March 3, 2008 – This April, Bush-Holley Historic Site will host a rich array of art and history related programs. A new exhibition in the William Hegarty Gallery will feature a variety of prints from the unparalleled American print collection of Greenwich residents Reba and Dave Williams. An exciting program of lectures and events complements the exhibition. For young children, the Bush-Holley Education Center offers an enriching art workshop with a focus on Connecticut landscapes, and for junior and high school students there will be a printmaking workshop. For those who enjoy the theatre arts, a presentation of Dear Eva Act II, a play based on actual love letters from World War II, will provide an evening of nostalgia and drama. April Events
Tuesday, April 1, 2008, the William Hegarty Gallery at Bush-Holley Historic Site, will open a new exhibition, From Harbor to Haven: Connecticut Scenes and Artist Printmakers from the Collection of Reba and Dave Williams. An original exhibition of over 60 works drawn from the American print collection of Greenwich residents Reba and Dave Williams, the exhibition features 19th and 20th century prints with a focus on Connecticut; its scenes and sites, by artists who lived or worked in the state. An opening wine and cheese reception will take place from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is Free. The exhibition will remain on view until Sunday, August 17, 2008.
The William's collection is the largest collection of American prints in private hands and includes more than 5,000 works, representing over 2,000 artists made by American artists during the last 150 years. The exhibition will remain on view until Sunday, August 17, 2008. Gallery hours: Tues. – Sun.; 12 to 4 p.m. Closed Mondays. Adults $6, seniors and students $4. Monday, April 7 – Front Porch Forum Lecture II in the American Studies Lecture Series -

Open to grades 2 to 6. Children will explore the current print exhibition in the gallery then create their own in the Vanderbilt Education Center. Thursday, April 17, 7:00 p.m. - Dear Eva: Letters From World War II – Act II Dramatic Reading
A preview performance of Act II of a new play derived from a collection of World War II letters will be presented during a special dramatic reading in the Vanderbilt Education Center at Bush-Holley Historic Site. Greenwich resident Catherine Ladnier and Quinnipiac University Associate Professor of Journalism Paul Janensch are collaborating on a new play based on wartime letters, to and from the home front, saved by Catherine's mother, Eva Lee Brown, of Easley, S.C. The one-hour performance will be followed by a ‘talkback’ between the audience and play writers. Refreshments will be served. $15 per person. Saturday, April 26, 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. – Teen Print Workshop, Linoleum Printmaking-
Ronnie Rysz, a printmaker from the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT will lead this linoleum block print workshop for middle and high school students. Students will create multiple images using one linoleum block using a reduction process. Students will explore multicolor and reduction printmaking techniques. $50 per person. $45 for members. Monday, April 28, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. - Sotheby’s Prints Auction Preview – Enjoy a private reception and guided preview of the works for sale at the upcoming Sotheby’s Prints Sale on May 1 and 2. Includes a cocktail reception and private tour of the sale preview exhibition led by Mary S. Bartow, Sotheby’s Senior VP and Head of Print Department. Bush-Holley Historic Site, 39 Strickland Road in Cos Cob, features the circa 1730 National Historic Landmark Bush-Holley House, home of Connecticut’s first art colony. Guided tours of the house feature an American Impressionist art collection and historic interiors. The William Hegarty Gallery presents historically and artistically significant exhibits that focus on the art and artists of the Cos Cob art colony, museum collections and aspects of Greenwich history. Open Tues. – Sun.; 12– 4 p.m. Closed Mondays. Admission to gallery, visitor center and house museum is $6 for adults, $4 seniors and students.
