The Historical Society continues and expands some of its exhibitions by interpreting them for use on the Internet. These virtual exhibitions explore the themes and include many images from the original exhibitions, in addition to providing lesson plans for teachers and links to other sources.
Voices from the Civil War Online, curated by Kirsten Jensen, was modeled after the exhibition, Voices from the Civil War (February - September 2003; Kathleen Craughwell-Varda curator) and won the 20th Annual Wilbur Cross Award for Best Heritage Project from the Connecticut Humanities Council. The online version of this exhibition was made possible by grants from the Connecticut Humanities Council and Bank of America Bank/The Private Bank at Bank of America Greenwich. Slavery and Freedom in the North, curated by Kirsten Jensen, was modeled after the Historical Society's exhibition Intimate Strangers: Slavery and Freedom in Fairfield County, 1700-1850 (October 2004 - April 2005; Peter Hinks, Ph.D. and Stacey Danielson co-curators). The online version of this exhibition was made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
