The Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich

About Us

Founded in 1931 to collect and preserve the history of Greenwich, Connecticut, the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich is located  on the historic Cos Cob Harbor, home to Connecticut's first art colony. We are a privately funded non-profit organization, accredited by the American Assocation of Museums, dedicated to making history matter in Greenwich, Connecticut. Our facilities include the National Historic Landmark Bush-Holley House (circa 1730); a museum gallery and shop housed in a former village post office (circa 1805); our Education Center in a mid-19th century barn; and our Library and Archives, which houses print; audio and videotape pertaining to Greenwich history and the Cos Cob art colony. The grounds and gardens have been restored to their appearance during the Cos Cob Impressionist art colony that thrived between 1890 and 1920.

The Historical Society's programs inspire lifelong learning and build stronger familiies, schools and communities in the greater Greenwich area. Our educational programs and services include tours of Bush-Holley House museum; permanent and changing exhibitions; lectures and hands-on learning for adults, families and children; research opportunities; publications; and the documentation of Greenwich's historic landmarks and sites. Each year, the Historical Society hosts thousands of students and teachers at Bush-Holley House for interactive, inquiry-based programs that give students the opportunity to creatively explore a variety of topics and sharpen critical thinking skills.
