In addition to serving in the 10th Regiment, many Greenwich men also served in the 7th, 17th, 29th and 31st Regiments of the Connecticut Volunteers. The 10th Regiment was instrumental in the Burnside and Virginia Campaigns, was engaged in battles from North Carolina to Florida and took part in the long siege of Richmond, Virginia. The 17th took part in some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. The 29th and 31st Regiments were "Colored" regiments of the Connecticut Volunteers. The 29th Regiment was engaged in several battles around Richmond, including the battle for Petersburg; the 31st Regiment was also engaged primarily in Virginia, and was at Appomattox with the 10th Regiment when General Lee surrendered to General Grant.
